Occupational Safety and Health

Our Group operates under the principle of "Safety First", and have established the "OYO Groups's Safety Policy" accordingly. We are dedicated to safe procedures with the goal of achieving "zero workplace accidents" involving all employees and partner companies.

OYO Group Safety Policy
  1. The OYO Group positions employee safety as the basis of business activities. In an effort to completely reduce occupational accidents, we give top priority to safety when conducting business activities.
  2. We comply with related laws and regulations, internal regulations, etc., actively conduct workplace safety activities, and cultivate safety awareness through employee education.
  3. We set confirmation of the actual place, actual thing, and actual situation as the basic principle of safety activities. We proactively utilize DX to perform mutual safety confirmation and improvement by related parties. We also work together with business partners to prevent occupational disasters and accidents. Furthermore, we value communication among employees and between employees and customers, business partners, and local residents, and strive to constantly improve effectiveness for mutual understanding.
  4. We implement preliminary risk assessment for our business activities in an effort to reduce and eliminate risk. Furthermore, at work sites, we reliably implement various safety activities and safety patrols, such as KY activities (hazard prediction activities).
  5. In addition to promoting the use of public transportation, we will work to prevent traffic accidents by considering improvement measures based on both data analysis of mileage and uneven speed while driving and the driving characteristics of employees.

Promotion System

Our Group has designated the chief of Business Promotion Headquarters as the Chief Safety Officer and organizes workplace safety committees in each business location to collaborate with partner companies in all accident prevention efforts.

Our company has established a Safety Committee composed of executive officers, staff, and worker representatives to discuss and make decisions on matters related to occupational health and safety throughout the organization. In each business division and office, representatives from the union branches attend the workplace safety committees to participate in the development of issues related to occupational health and safety.

For work safety within Group companies, we have a structure in place where support is provided by the Business Promotion Headquarters, Group Management Headquarters, and International Group Management Headquarters.

Initiatives

OYO Group complies with the laws and regulations of the countries or regions where it operates, and in accordance with the OYO Group Safety Policy, it undertakes the following actions:

  • We comply with the statutory minimum wage and strive to pay at least the minimum wage or a living wage. We do not reduce wages unfairly.
  • We adhere to legal limits and appropriately manage employees' working hours, holidays, and leave, prohibiting excessive overtime.
  • We comply with labor-related laws and conduct monitoring to ensure we can track employees' working hours. We have a system in place that automatically sends warnings to employees and their supervisors if their working hours become excessively long.
  • We strive to provide a safe, hygienic, and healthy working environment for our employees.
  • We are committed to continuous improvement in treatment based on sincere dialogue between labor and management regarding wage increases, taking into account our company's situation.
  • We conduct regular safety training and work safety initiatives including accident prevention and safety patrols for all employees at each business location.

Safety patrols

Our company conducts regular safety patrols at each business division's work sites while additionally, on request, the central safety promotion department at our headquarters will visit the work sites to conduct detailed safety inspections and provide guidance on improvements based on the safety patrol records.

Work safety in collaboration with partner companies

Our company engages in work safety activities not only for our own employees but for and with our partner companies.

In January 2022, we held a remote national safety conference that included our partner companies and our company's executives, including our President.

Risk awareness through pictograms

We create and inspect display boards using safety pictograms for on-site work, making accident risks visible and easy to understand.

We have had positive feedback regarding this initiative from customers and workers alike, and believe that it contributes to the promotion of safety awareness both within and outside the organization.

Safe driving management using cloud-based drive recorders

We have installed cloud-based drive recorders with features such as detecting, warning, and recording unsafe driving, diagnosing safe/eco-friendly driving, and managing travel trajectories.

These recorders allow us to remotely and consistently monitor employees' safe driving behaviors.

Promoting safety awareness through traffic safety communications and office meetings

The safety promotion department develops informative materials related to traffic safety and work safety weekly or biweekly, which are then distributed to the entire organization to raise awareness of driving safety.

All business locations conduct group readings of these and make action confirmations to improve the safety awareness of all employees.

Intoxication Checks using a Breathalyzer

Based on the Cabinet Office Ordinance that partially amends the Enforcement Regulations of the Road Traffic Act, we will carry out intoxication checks using breathalyzers at all business locations from January 2023.
