Environmental Management

Our thoughts on Environmental Management Initiatives

The "Environmental Business" is a business field in our Group, and we believe that efforts in both business and organizational activities contribute to the formation of a sustainable decarbonized society, a resource circulating society, and a society that is in harmony with nature.

In our business activities, we promote businesses related to renewable energy and actively propose solutions that contribute to the creation of a regional circular symbiotic community, and a society that coexists with nature in harmony.

In our organizational activities, we work on climate change mitigation, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and the reduction of environmental impact through our environmental management system.

Activities to Reduce Environmental Impact

We have established an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001. Based on the "Environmental Aspect Assessment Form," we identify significant environmental aspects in the day-to-day operations of each business site and their business activities, and as a countermeasure, we conduct studies and implement measures to reduce the environmental impact in these areas.

Additionally, we have been working on reducing energy consumption, such as electricity and gas, implementing green procurement of copy paper, promoting paperless practices in meetings, as well as promoting the mindful use of water in the office.

We have previously reduced electricity consumption by transitioning the lighting to LED and upgrading the air conditioning facilities. Regarding copy paper, we continue to promote paperless practices to use resources efficiently.

Efforts to reduce environmental risks through business activities

In the OYO Group, we actively address global environmental issues such as resource depletion, climate change, and environmental pollution, in compliance with relevant laws and regulations, together with our business partners. We also consider the health and safety of the local communities involved and take into account regional environmental issues, and work on the following matters:

  • Reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Monitoring of used water, water conservation, and appropriate monitoring, control, and treatment of wastewater
  • Efforts for the conservation of biodiversity
  • Prevention of pollutant emissions, and reducting them by avoiding the use of materials that cause pollution
  • Management of safe handling, transportation, storage, use, recycling or reuse, and disposal of chemicals and other substances that pose risks to human health and the environment
  • Efficient utilization and reduction of waste through proper resource management

OYO Group provides services that promote the reduction of environmental risks for our customers.

The Energy Conservation Diagnostics Service

One of our Group companies, NS Environment Corporation, is certified by Japan's Ministry of the Environment as a specialist organization for providing energy conservation diagnostic services, and they provide CO2 reduction potential diagnoses to businesses.

These diagnostics involve a detailed investigation and analysis of the energy usage status of the equipment and facilities in private companies by expert energy managers who provide consultations ranging from operational improvements to equipment upgrades, contributing to the reduction of the company's energy costs and CO2 emissions.

Soil and Groundwater Contamination Control Services

The Soil Contamination Countermeasures Act aims to understand the status of soil contamination and prevent the health hazards that may stem from them. Businesses are obligated to conduct soil contamination surveys when they discontinue the use of specific facilities that used hazardous substances, and to submit a notice when performing land redevelopment or are making changes to the character of the land over a certain scale.

We offer a one-stop-service starting from providing support for administrative procedures that involve strict examinations, to investigating for soil contamination, designing countermeasures, and providing the appropriate construction management.

Countermeasure Services for Naturally Occurring Heavy Metals

In Japan, many regions have geological strata containing heavy metals such as arsenic and lead, which means that there could be a potential for the release of naturally occurring heavy metals that could impact the environment during large-scale construction projects involving excavation.

Our Group recognized this issue early on and provides one-stop solutions including geological assessment and the analysis and treatment of excavated soil to address this issue.

Business Activities in Water-Stressed Areas

Approximately 50 offices, including our headquarters, business divisions, and offices located in Japan, secure water by using tap water. According to the "Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas" published by the World Resources Institute, there are no offices located in areas where water stress is rated as "High" or above.
